From a chart to a formula
A ratio table tells you how much developer to weigh once you already know the target shade. It cannot tell you what the hair in front of you is: the level it sits at now, the pigment underneath it, how much gray is really there, or what the last box dye left behind. That diagnosis is the part that takes years to learn and the part that goes wrong.
